The clippers have been charged and the scissors sharpened as leading Australian hairdressing franchise Just Cuts prepares for its legendary Cut-a-Rama event next week in Bathurst. The network is preparing to add to the $550,000 it has already raised to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) since the event started in 1998.

Held ahead of the 2025 Outback Car Trek, Cut-a-Rama will begin at 5.30pm on Thursday 29 May at the Family Hotel, 76 Bentinck Street.

Just Cuts Bathurst Salon Owner Catherine Denney and her stylists will lead Cut-a-Rama for a night of haircuts, shaves, and trims- all in the name of raising funds for the RFDS.

Ms Denney said Cut-a-Rama perfectly captures what makes Bathurst so special – ‘’coming together, having fun, and supporting essential services like the Royal Flying Doctors Service’’.

“Just as we’ve renewed our commitment to Bathurst with our fresh newly renovated salon, this event reinforces our connection to the broader regional community. Having Cut-a-Rama in Bathurst is incredibly special for us’’.

Anything goes at Cut-a-Rama, from simple buzz cuts to full transformations.

“We could do something as simple as a buzz cut or we could be turning someone’s hair into a pineapple or a ladybug,” said Just Cuts Salon Support Advisor Brooke Edmonds who will also be a Cut-a-Rama.

“Last year we shaved a guy from head to toe -chest, stomach, legs, you name it- we will shave it! All for a good cause.”

The event has become a fixture ahead of the annual Outback Car Trek, which raises awareness of the challenges faced by regional communities when trying to access basic medical treatment.

This year the Outback Car Trek sets off from Bathurst to Dubbo on Friday 30 May. It is the start of a route that will take in Bourke, Cunnamulla, Quilpie, Longreach, Julia Creek, Karumba Point and Chillagoe before finishing in Cairns on Sunday June 8.

Just Cuts Founder Denis McFadden, who is attending his 27th Cut-a-Rama, said the event reflects the brand’s deep connection with regional Australia.

“With 200 salons across Australia, we have deep ties to regional communities, we know how essential the Royal Flying Doctor Service is. Supporting this work means supporting the communities we’re proud to be part of,” said Just Cuts Founder Denis McFadden.

“Cut-a-Rama is one of my favourite events of the year- it’s joyful, a little wild, and full of heart. It brings together our incredible Stylists, trek participants, and locals all rallying behind a cause that truly saves lives,” he adds.

The RFDS delivers 24-hour aeromedical emergency services to regional and remote Australians, often being the only available healthcare provider in these communities.

“People in these communities can live hours from medical care,” Mr McFadden said. “The doctors that work for the RFDS are the GPs of regional Australia, with a waiting room that spans millions of kilometres.”

Stylists fly in from far and wide to be part of Cut-a-Rama, and for Ms Edmonds, it’s the people who make it unforgettable.

“We meet some of the most amazing people from all walks of life, and it’s unreal to have a chat while doing some crazy stuff to their hair.”

More about Just Cuts:
Just for you. Since 1982.

In 1982, Denis McFadden had to wait three months to vacate a lease he no longer needed, as he had already moved his Sydney salon business. To keep things simple, he decided to hold a promotion offering a “no-appointment” $7 Style Cut for all Clients.

The response was outstanding, and that day marked the moment the Just Cuts brand was born.

Just Cuts is an Australian hairdressing franchise that bridges the gap between a barber and a high-end hair salon. With Salons in every state of Australia, on both the North and South Islands of New Zealand and within the United Kingdom, it is the largest hairdressing company from the Southern Hemisphere.

Based on a fixed-price, no-appointment system, Just Cuts offers Clients affordable haircuts from fully qualified hairdressers and performs over 100,000 Style Cuts per week across the globe.
